Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Uğur ÖZCAN`s project titled "Reducing wildlife-vehicle collisions with the integration of Circuit Model/Kernel Analysis/Machine Learning methods: D100 highway" has been entitled to be supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 1001 - Scientific and Technological Research Projects Support Programme.
In the First Period of 2023, 209 projects were proposed to the Agriculture, Forestry and Veterinary Research Support Group (TOVAG) group and only 21 projects were accepted.
In the project where Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ender BUĞDAY and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Efehan ULAŞ from our university are researchers, Prof. Dr. Kerim ÇİÇEK from Ege University, Assoc. Dr. Derya GÜLÇİN from Adnan Menderes University and Assoc. Dr. N. Kaan ÖZKAZANÇ from Bartın University are researchers and consultants. With the project, it is aimed to determine the spatial and temporal distribution of wildlife vehicle collisions (WVC), which pose a great threat to medium and large mammals, and accordingly, to analyse hotspots, potential corridors, factors affecting WVC, and the effectiveness of ecological underpasses; with kernel density analysis, circuit models and machine learning methods, to disseminate them to regional areas using ecological niche models and to spatially reveal measures to reduce accidents.
